Designing for designers is never easy, but I love a challenge. The owners of this high-end home textiles business have been in the design field for years, so they were confident and very clear about how they wanted to represent themselves. They’ve never been interested in being a “big name” brand and wanted a look that suggests “carefully curated boutique.” I ran with that, creating a brand that feels aspirational yet attainable.
We collaborated from the start and the women at Urban Threads were clear they wanted everything to feel like a user was walking into a store, rather than an online store. We made sure to use colors and fonts that felt like home.
Serif fonts quietly add to the fine feel of the site, and aid in keeping the entire branding classic and up-scale.
I started with a black and white scheme, and subtly added color as necessary.
Urban Threads needed a distinctive icon that can easily be stamped on a shopping bag or gift box. It had to be expressive while also reserving some of the brand’s mystique – a conversation starter. The resulting a logo carries a timeless appeal that exudes the hand-crafted, hand-selected quality of the brand.
I created a full Shopify theme for the owners, making sure the site didn’t feel like a run-of-the-mill home-goods store. I wanted visitors to feel like they are walking into the Urban Threads storefront and meeting the owners for a warm and personal shopping experience. I chose to let the textiles and imagery speak for themselves, and allow the logo to have a strong presence.
The owners and I share a similar style, so we were on the same page from the start. I’ve always loved a focus on clean colors and elegant fonts and Urban Threads really fit that aesthetic.
